Haskell Wolfenbarger's "Sailing On The Ocean" - an early American recording.
Wolfersberger and related families:
A Family Gathering(link to downloadable registration and information sheets)
July 28th and 29th are early registration days
July 30th a Wolfensbergers in America family history presentation will be held in the AM. A tour of Landis Valley Museum in Lancaster will be made available in the afternoon for a group rate additional fee. This is a living museum that shows how our ancestors lived and worked in those early years. An Evening Social will be held at 8PM at the Lantern Lodge to meet and greet your extended family members.
July 31st, local historian, Don Rhoads, will be discussing the local history of the area and how the Wolfersbergers fit into that history up through present times. We will tour the local area to see Wolfersberger buildings and the land which was farmed. Lunch will be provided at Campbelltown's fairgrounds, where we can continue our socializing, ask questions and get answers about the family, share photographs and stories, etc. The lunch menu will have various, local, Pennsylvania Dutch foods for your delight. Our tour will end at Schaefferstown, where a WFA family memorial stone was placed a decade ago. We will conclude our day with a program and dinner at the Lantern Lodge in Myerstown.
August 1st, Pastor Hein of Salem United Church of Christ will be performing an old German Reformed Church litany for his service that morning, in honor of our visit there in Campbelltown for this anniversary. We will also have a special graveyard memorial service at noon, following the normal service.
A Family Gathering, for Wolfersberger and related families, is scheduled July 30th through August 1st. Early registration begins July 28th, 2010. This marks the 280th Anniversary of our first Wolfensberger immigration to these shores, back in 1730 at Philadelphia.
Lantern Lodge, Myerstown, Pennsylvania is the central meeting place, with historical excursions in Lancaster and Campbelltown.
Area historian Don Rhoads will be the keystone tour guide, as the Wolfensberger Family Association (WFA) celebrates their 15th anniversary.
The international WFA has members in Switzerland and other countries of Europe, some of whom are expected to attend. The roots of the WFA American branches come primarily from Switzerland, with some stop overs in Germany.
The surname has 20 various spellings, including the shortened Spargur, Sparger lines. The historic area of Lancaster and Campbelltown, holds special significance, due to the earliest immigrations there by Johannes Wolfensberger, and Anna Margaretha Ensminger with their family and associated friends. They were members of the Reformed Lutheran sect, who originally donated the land for the Union Church in Campbelltown, currently known as the Salem United Church of Christ.
A family service is planned for Sunday at the church grounds in Campbelltown.
The Family Gathering is open to those interested in this unique history of the Campbelltown and Lancaster areas as it relates to WFA members and extended family lines.
Pre-registration fees will be collected by membership secretary, David Wolfersberger. Dinners, and Landis Valley Museum tours, included in fees. More details forthcoming.
